Modern Glaze
Laura Brodax
Modern Glaze is a storefront studio and gallery run by ceramic artist Laura Brodax, located in Shoreline.
Laura creates porcelain wares inspired by Japanese and Chinese ceramic surface decoration, early photographic techniques, Mid-century souvenir plates and local flora and fauna. First throwing, slab rolling and slip casting, then using a centuries old technique of image transfer, photographic images are screen printed onto rice paper with underglaze and rubbed onto the wares or screen printed directly onto flat surfaces. Through this style of working, her ceramic work comes alive with leaf reflections, pressed flower veining, floating seaweed, gentle water waves, modernist carved shapes, word art and historical photographic documentation.
Additionally, in the gallery, Modern Glaze shows work from other Northwest ceramic artists.
